April 2013 Holden Beach Fishing Report

4-28-13 Backwater Fishing Update

Ran several backwater trips over the past few days and the fishing has been very consistent. I can't say the fishing has been on fire but we are catching anywhere in-between 7 to 10 Red and Blackdrum with a Flounder or a few Speckled Trout mixed in on our 1/2 day Backwater Fishing Charters. Looks like the wind is going to continue to blow like crazy for this upcoming weekend and will have to cancel all my offshore trips. If you want to have good time on the water and catch some inshore fish I should have a few openings left this week. Here is a few pics from this past week end. Capt. 4-23-13 Backwater Fishing With Capt. Kevin Sneed of Rigged and Ready Charters

Mr. Neil and his Father in law Rudy joined me today for a Half Day Backwater trip and the fish were biting almost as fast as we could get the lines out. The first two hours was non stop action and then slowed down as the tide was changing. To my surprise Rudy asked me "do you catch catfish in these waters", I replied not often and almost instantly he set the hook and low and behold there was a 3lb Blue Cat on the end of the line. I thought that was kinda cool.. They did an awesome job today and look forward to seeing them again in the future.. 4-23-13b 4-23-13a

4-17-13 Commercial King Mackerel Fishing aboard the Rigged and Ready

Today was an exciting day for me. The weather was perfect and unfortunately I did not have a charter so I decided to try my hand at commercial king mackerel fishing today. For me its a way I can make a little extra money and stay up to date on with whats going on offshore. The King Mackerel have showed up and it should only get better from here on out. Another quick note.  The water temperature on the beach was 68 degrees and I also saw schools of glass minnows. That's a good combination for a Spanish Mackerel bite coming real soon. The Blacktip  and Spinner Sharks Show up like clock work when the Spanish arrive.  If you have any Questions on how to book a trip or need any info contact me @ 910-448-3474. Capt. 4-14-13 Gulf Stream Fishing Charter with Captain Kevin Sneed of Rigged and Ready Charters

4-14-13   Tough day today.  The weather was perfect this morning. We ran 30mph the whole way some 60+miles offshore to the Gulf Stream. The water temp. was perfect and we were marking bait but the Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna just Didn't want to co-operate. We did manage to hook two really nice wahoo in the first 30 minutes of fishing and were only able to boat one. A very decent 55+lb Wahoo to get the day started. After all that had happend right out the gate I figured we were in for multiple hook ups through the day.. Man was I wrong. The winds picked up out of the east and the fishing shut down.  We did manage to boat one Blackfin Tuna around 1 pm and that was it.. I will have to say that has been one of my slowest days of fishing in the Stream in over 5 years. But hey every dog has his day and I cant wait to get back out there. The most important part of this trip is that Martin and his dad had a great day and he can now say that he has caught the biggest fish of his life, a 55+lb WAHOO.. 4-14-13 4-14-13a

4-11-13 Half Day Backwater Fishing with Captain Kevin of Rigged and Ready Charters

Today Eric Pittman and his two sons joined me on a 4 hour Backwater Fishing Trip. We started out a little slow but after about an hour we were catching Red Drum as fast as we could possibly reel them in. It was to the point where we were just using 1 fishing rod. What a great trip with some very good people.. Eric Pittman is a pastor of a church in Michigan and the good lord was definitely looking over us today. The weather was perfect and fish were biting. FISH ON!!!!!!! 4-11-13

4-8-13 Half Day Family Fishing Charter with Captain Kevin Sneed of Rigged and Ready Charters in Holden Beach, NC.

4-8-13  Today I took a group from Michigan and this was their first time visiting Holden Beach, NC. The weather was perfect and fish were biting.. We were targeting black sea bass and this time I had my trolling gear on the boat just in case we spotted some bluefish or false albacore.. We started out catching Sea Bass two at time and then all of a sudden we were hooked with with a blue fish. I knew it was about time for them!!!  SO we decided to switch over and start trolling. After about 45 minutes with out a strike we went back to bottom fishing and catching Sea Bass on every drop with light tackle and small jigs...THIS CAN BE AN EXTREMELY FUN TRIP IF YOU HAVE SMALL KIDS THAT JUST WANT TO CATCH FISH. 4-8-13 4-8-13a

4-7-13 Full Day Offshore with Rigged and Ready Charters

4-7-13     Well today was a special day. I had the opportunity to take a young man named Will Wright and his good friend Cherry Evans out to do some hard-core fishing 50+ miles offshore.. It was a little rough on the way out but the weather was going to be laying out through the day. Once we arrived we started trolling and the only fish we were catching were false albacore and sharks. Well we had enough of that so we tied some 7 to 10 oz, jigs on and began working them thru the water column in 100ft of water. And it began. We were hooking up fish on every drop and these were not small fish either. They were all in the 30 to 50 lb class.. Mostly amberjacks but after losing 3 big cobia beside the boat we finally nailed one at the end of trip.. 4-7-13a 4-7-13

4-2-13 Half Day Nearshore

4-2-13  Today I had the opportunity to run a Half Day charter with 5 kids and their mom... And let me tell you these kids were tough!!! The winds were a steady 15 to 20 knots but it didn't bother them one bit. Once we arrived and set the anchor it wasn't long and they were hooking up as fast as they could drop it to the bottom..  Needless to say they kept me on my toes... What a wonderful group this was and looking forward to seeing them soon.

4-1-13 Half Day Seabass Adventure

4-1-13   Today Zack, Tyler and their father David Tilley from Charlotte joined me for a Half Day Fishing Charter out of Bluewater Pointe Marina in Oak Island N,C,. The ocean had calmed down just enough to make fishing pleasurable, and Black Seabass was the species we were looking for. These boys kept me busy with each of them catching and releasing over 200 Seabass and 8 Sharks.4-1-13
